A friend and I went to Lake Samish this morning, and I got 2 kokanee in 20 minutes. I thought I will be limited by noon, but nothing after that. This was my first kokanee and I was so happy to get some fish. I was using kokanee rig at the store and followed kokanee guru Tyler Hick kokanee corn recipe. I was using a downrigger on one pole and using the 4 oz ball with the slider on the other pole (got nothing on this pole). Managing two poles on the kayak is not easy for me. I set the deep at 30 feet, and the pole with lead ball was at 60 feet, i have no idea how deep it will be. I watch some youtube and it said 4 oz ball at 100 feet of line will get you to about 40 feet. So I was hoping to hint 30 feet. Is this right?

Trolling at about 1,2 to 1,4 MPH. I need to practice more before I will go out for salmon in Shilshole Bay.

Thanks for all the help on the NWKA site.

I will try Lake Whatcom next week for Kokanee.

I generally fish kokes the same way with the downrigger on one side and slip sinker rig on the other. I have found that even though I have fish on the FF at 30-50’ and am catching with the downrigger at those depths I still only need 2oz of weight on the other 100-125’ back. I think the kokes will travel up a ways to hit your lure. I usually have equal success, but if the action gets too busy I’ll stick with the downrigger because its more fun without the added weight.

where I fish, it is only 75 feet deep. I don't want to let the line out more 65 feet, because when I do something with the other pole. My feet stop pedal, and I don't want the lead ball sink to the bottom. How do you manage your?

I just keep pedaling while I’m playing a fish on the other line. I know from experience that if I stop there is going to be a tangle whether I hit bottom or not. The other option would be to only use one rod.
