As seen here:

They look to be sold out or not produced anymore, but I am on the hunt for a smaller/lighter crab trap and this seems to fit the bill perfectly.

I have one of those traps. It's my primary kayak crab trap as it packs down much smaller than the big cubes, and is easier to deal with on your lap.

Not selling it though.  ;D

I think I got it at the Newport Walmart or Fred Meyers like 9-10 years ago.
If you find a source of them, I'd be interested in another.

I've never seen those traps but they look interesting.  Do you add any weights to keep it from being pushed by the current?

I have seen a few new octagon shaped traps at Cabelas and Fishfield that are smaller and better suited for kayak fishing, but they are spendy.

I always put my traps together and bait them up before launching and make sure the rope is coiled properly so it doesn't tangle on me when I'm on the water.

I added about a pouund or more of weight along the bottom edges.  It does help keep it planted.

Sounds right.  I have a 2.5lb disk weight ziptied to the bottom, and my traps don't move, unless you make the fatal mistake of putting your traps out at the south jetty in Tillamook during a minus tide exchange.

Lost two traps on the same day to the ocean gods.  Washed out with the tide.  Total shame, since I had customized these with a flip tops, bait cages, weighted doors, etc.  Good thing they are only $20 now when they go on sale.

zip tie pieces of rebar to the bottom,  works great to "plant" the pot.

I don’t have any on mine and only lost one because I put it too close to the channel. They might move a little but nothing I worry about.

Yup this is what I have going on with my regular danielsons after losing a couple to the rookie mistakes in Edmonds.

So I thought I would resurrect this thread to let everyone know I was able to finally buy one of these brand new.

First I emailed Danielson/whatever the parent company is called and after like a month or so they finally emailed back saying it is still sort of produced and to check Amazon if anything.

There is a listing for this product on Amazon (super overpriced but what you gonna do) here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OB7HEE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I added this to my wishlist/save-for-later and kept checking it every so often and about three months later I see one has actually appeared to purchase. Not sure if my addition to the cart and subsequent checking so often triggered something in their system to finally stock a single unit but it eventually got my pacific apex.

Just something to think about if you really want one and are willing to wait and pay for it.

+1. Rebar works great. Also, I use 2 feet of pencil lead wrapped on the doors.

Bit the $$ bullet on got the McKay traps and love them. Bit more $, but great for Kayaks. Still have 3 Danielson's, but these are so much easier to manage in a Kayak and really dont think I am missing out on numbers of crabs with the smaller pots.
