Weather and tides looking kinda decent. Hasn’t been rain for a bit. Anyone interested in some crabbing and maybe rockfish?

As a newbie to the area, I am starting to log areas I want to try.   Would you be crabbing in Tillamook bay or is this all off shore?  Looks like a 4.5 hour drive from where I plan to live.   If, in the future I make the drive and the surf is too high for my Hobie Outback launch, should I try the bay?

Good luck if you get out.  I am not in the area yet.
Thank you all for any kindness provided in the the Pacific Northwest.

When we talk about Tillamook, it is only about the bay. You don't cross the Tillymuck bar in a kayak. We drop crab traps and fish along the jetties, or sometimes head up the bay to the famous Ghost Hole. Dassit.

Surf launching is something you'll see a lot of talk about Pacific City and some other places. Other ocean fishing happens out of Depoe Bay which IS a situation where the launch is at the boat ramp and you go through the slot and cross the bar.

As far as today goes, I wrote off the weekend when there was a small craft advisory on Friday and into Saturday morning (I was looking at Nehalem, but that's just 20 miles away). I see the winds in Tillamook at running 10-15, which is too sporty for me. ymmv

I was gonna do swan island but I could maybe be convinced other wise for merwin. Reports haven’t been the greatest there which is why I was just gonna do a quick trip to swan.  They stock hagg recently?

I was thinking about Merwin, but the wind doesn't look like it would make for fun conditions.

Sustained wind doesn’t look too bad but a little gusty.  Will probably just end up at swan island to be safe

Did you guys do swan? If so, how was it?
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Yeah, I know how that goes. Sorry to hear! I still need to get my first kokanee!
I've heard good things about Merwin, will have to get a WA license for next year.

If you could cast to the one spot where they were congregating it was fire...otherwise skunk.  Power boaters were hogging the area to be able to cast to them so I didnt do so well.  I prefer to fish outside of the boom rather than casting over, but there were no fish to be found outside the booms.

Yeah, first time I went, there was a big sled, with a guide and 4 clients sitting on the sweet spot, which that day, was on the other side of the dock from the yellow boom. They must have got 8 before I got one, and probably 20-30 for the day, where as I got 5. My first one was bigger than any of theirs tho...
Luckily, there were only two power boats and three kayaks the whole day. That's why I fish Mondays!
