Interesting kayak, not my cup of tea but appreciate the engineering that went into it:

Here I am thinking I'm on the line of 'just buy a boat' owning a Hobie.

Fun to see new technologies applied to my hobbies -- even more fun imagining how those technologies will be incorporated 10 years down the line. 40-50lb peddle kayak? Neato!

If I had the opportunity to demo it, I'd absolutely give it a spin. I just don't know what demographic of kayak anglers they're gunning for with this one. Most entry-level kayakers balk at prices over $2k. With $11k, you could buy multiple Hobies with all the fixins. Are they aiming for the demo who kayak fish with $700 Stella reels? Does that demographic exist?

Either way, it's cool to see new stuff like this. Now someone buy one and bring it to ORC for everyone to demo  :D.

If I can slap some wheels on it and make it double as a commuter car, I’d be interested. Otherwise I’ll wait 10 years for a used one to show up on Craigs list..

That sums it up nicely. I'd go with a comfortably sized aluminum boat and newer outboard for that money before this Hot Wheels looking abomination. I wouldn't trust my life to that kayak in heavy seas either.

I would love to try it if someone entrusted me with their moderately priced car (kayak.)  I agree though, at that price I would just assume buy a boat.

on the other hand, these are on the market and it seems you could apply the same lifting foil technology to a kayak, perhaps with a combination of human propulsion (low speed and getting up on plane) and electric boost (flying over the water), that could be very interesting...

https://us.fliteboard.com/ (these guys is rated to lift a 220# person on a ~70# board)

https://liftfoils.com/efoil/ (these guys will lift 265# person on a 120# board!)

I'm thinking of perhaps a Hobie Outback that rises up out of the water as speed increases,... ;D

Looks like the kayak equivalent of a Bass Boat.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
