Took the Old Town Bigwater 132 out for its maiden voyage today at sunset bay. Appx 5 hours of fishing. Bay was socked in with fog...glad to have the Helix 5 to get me back to the launch. Swell was far bigger than I expected, but still felt comfortable in the boat. Brought back a decent greenling for fish tacos, but slow fishing other than that. While using the sabiki rod for bait, hooked up with something sizeable...broke off...no bueno! Learned quite a bit today and will use what i learned to fish better on Monday. Looks like perfect conditions for an early start Monday. Thanks to all the folks I talked to and got advice from today. Much appreciated.

$5,000 fish tacos taste so good!

Remember...hope is a lousy strategy!

full marks for getting out there and putting in some hours.

was it that the swells were bigger than you expected or more that they were coming from different directions with random timing?

From my “very” limited experience...timing seemed pretty regular, but height was a bit bigger than I had imagined. I did not rig up the rods before going out... big mistake. Although I typically am not a “sea sick” person, it was not a good situation trying to rig setups in such big swell.

I’m heading out from Sunset, early on Monday, I hope to get some Ling and bass in the boat.

Roger, your info and YT videos are very appreciated!

Hope to see you there on Monday.

Cheers
