High tide on the Willamette is at 9:11 am.

If anyone is interested in doing some sturgeon fishing on Saturday morning let me know.  I have sturgeon rods, tackle and even an extra anchor system available.

Wish I could Brian.  Leave some dinos for me.  And say hello to my little sculpin friend.

Good Luck

DC

PS  The sandshrimp/nightcrawler combo did not produce for me a couple of weeks ago.  And I read about a past smelt run around this time that is still embedded in the sturgeon feeding trigger.  Might want to take along some smelt.

If I end up going I'm going to try and make a run to Winco/uwajimaya etc..  to find some fresh smelt.  It's usually not Columbia River smelt, but close enough and 1/5th the price.  Plus, I can always eat the left overs.

Alternatively, I might bring a light rod and do some bait collecting first.  You didn't hear it from me, but fillet-o-chub, sculpin, or crappie, etc..  all make decent sturgeon bait.

Are you still thinking about the Swan Island / Cathedral Park area?  Don't know what the boat ramps are like on a Saturday, but I'm ready for some kayak fishing.  Bsteves, what's your "float plan"?

I still need to clear this with the wife (it is Valentine's Day after all).  But the plan would be to fish the morning say 8 am - 1 pm.

Swan Island is an option, but it's a bit of a paddle to the sturgeon hole from the boat ramp.  Cathedral Park is always good, but I'm guessing now that Saturday is the only weekend sturgeon retention day that place might be mobbed.

I'd be inclined to go to George Roger's Park just because there won't be any competition at the ramp.

If I were you I would load in at meldrum bar boat ramp, paddle directly across the river and up stream on the west linn side till you are about 150 ish yards directly below the bottom tip of goat island. Use your depthfinder to find about 40+ feet of water and commence fishing.  There is a way to load a yak in from the west linn side but it would take some time to explain.  If I were you I would stick with sandshrimp or fresh local smelt.  The water is cold and the bite has not been very heavy.

Sorry amb,

I seemed to have dropped the ball on this one.  It's 10:30 pm Friday night and I forgot that you were interested.  I didn't get bait and my wife now has other plans for me.  Guess I've lost the right to complain.
