ok been hearing alot about these new trident yaks and just wana know how stable they are.  How does the trident line compare to the big game?  could you stand and fish out of them?  would the 15ft one be a good choice for someone whos 200+lbs as an all around yak?
What are your thoughts on the malibu x-factor yaks?  Have any of you seen these Freedom Hawk yaks?  wierd design but very inovative I think.

The Tridents are great boats, and if you poke around on here you'll find plenty of threads discussing them. They're not as rock-solid stable as the Big Game, but much more versatile boats. I'm able to stand in them and paddle around, but haven't tried casting, etc yet. I'm currently weighing in around 235, and paddle a Trident 13 as my primary boat. I had a 15 last summer, but prefer the extra maneuverability of the 13. I've also paddled my son's Trident 11, and it floated me fine.

The Freedom is very interesting. I saw one in person for the first time at the Outdoor Retailer show last August, and got hooked by the concept. I have one shipping to me today, so I'll be putting it through its paces shortly. If you're interested, we're hosting a stroke clinic/paddle demo Sunday the 15th at Blue Lake in Gresham. I'll have the Trident 11 & 13 and the Freedom Hawk with me, and you're welcome to demo them & see what you think. You can find more details here:

RedFish-
One our members over in Idaho has the Freedom Hawk, use the search function on here and you should be able to find the thread where he talks about it if he doesn't answer this post.

One of things that pushed me into a Prowler 13 (very similar to the Trident 13 sans rodpod and some minor hull shape changes) over a Big Game was the weight of the yak.  Same goes for the Freedom Hawk, its on the heavy side as well.  If weight isn't a factor and you want all out stability I'd say the Freedom Hawk or the new Hobie Pro Angler would be good bets.  I tried standing to cast a few times on my P13 with varied success;  I can still sight fish and read the water quite well w/ polarized glasses while sitting down.

RF85, I think the best advice anyone could give is to figure out what you want to be able to do with your yak (your values), and then go demo as many boats as possible to figure out which matches up with your desires.

When you're done post up your choice and your reasons, and we'll all learn from it.
