Signed up here in 2017 and never got around to introducing myself... Lol. I am Nick W, reside in NE Tacoma, fish out of a Outback, mostly freshwater but got out in MA 11 and MA 4 when I could this last year. Flipped in the surf on the last trip of the season. Managed to recover almost everything I had on board (with a lot of help) including the ling under my seat that didn't fit in my fish bag! I have been getting the bug to try halibut this year and thought I'd poke around on here as a place to start.

Welcome (belated or not) to NWKA. Nice kayak, ride and good looking fish marks on the fish finder! Yard sales are never fun on the surf, most of us have been in that situation, good that you recover most of your stuff (lingcod included!). Lots of friendly folks around here, hope you connect with some on the water too. Have fun and be safe.

Welcome! The more the merrier (and the more often the fish reports)! Hope you get a chance to catch that halibut you're looking for. Race you to it!

Welcome to the board Nick! I haven't fully dumped myself in the surf....yet! Been close once or twice.

just this last weekend I got a good reminder to secure my stuff. I was crabbing in Yaquina Bay. My 1st time kayak crabbing. I positioned the rods to pull the pot, got it up and in the boat. Decided to change its location slightly to better facilitate paddling and when I lifted the pot it lifted a rod out of the holder and bloop there it went. For a couple seconds I watched it slowly sink as I tried to scramble for a way to retrieve it. No luck. Fortunately it was a cheap rod.

Welcome to the forum Nick.
My apologies for hijacking your post.

I’ll admit to making the sad face while watching some piece of gear disappear into the blue.
How was the crabbing?
I’m considering Friday and Saturday.

Well, I only dropped one pot for less than 3 hours. Got 2 nice keeper Dungeness and a couple big red rocks that managed to crawl out once onboard the kayak, which didn't hurt my feelings too much. I launched off the beach at the Marine Science center. I was maybe 70 or 80 yards North of the line of NOAA boats, or whatever they are. So it wasn't terrible. The crabs are hard, full and tasty this time of year.

Really fun to catch some new species. Now you know why I spend a whole day catching greenlings :D

Welcome Nick. Nice set up.

I would love to find some near shore Halibut.

I hope to be able to post up a pic of my kayak when I finally decide on one and acquire it.
