I'll be out there in the morning with one of my sons.  See y'all on the water.

How was the wind today?
The south wind kicked up around 0945. Made for a pretty short morning of fishing. Even still, it was nice to get out and stick some bottomfeeders. Not too often that a fishable morning falls on a weekend in February.

Yeah.  Wind came up early, but it was probably the best day fishing I've had out there.  We couldn't keep the Black Rockfish or Lings off the hook.  We went north when a group of 5 headed out south a few minutes before us.  At one point, I caught 7 Black Rockfish in 7 minutes.  Threw back two 24" Lings trying to get a better one when my idler pulley cable broke.

A fella dumped in the hole and was rescued by the CG when we were still about 500 yards out.  Yak and fisherman made it back in safely.

A few pics from today. Had a great time with Mark, Skip, Patrick and Bill. Several others out there that I didn’t meet. Looking forward to future outings!

Hungry Lings all over the reef.
Released 3 others just over 22, a couple rockfish including a China.
Launched about 7:30 and when the wind came up at 9:30ish it was over.

Good day out of Fogarty with a pretty good-sized crew. Made it out to the deep reef and picked up a pair of 33"  lings. Headed back in to see if I could find some rockfish, but when the wind came up it got pretty sloppy so in a lucid moment, I headed in.

First day in the ocean with the new Oldtown AP 120. Spot lock is awesome. Hit it when I got to the spot. Boat stayed within feet with a good drift and a solid wind in the same direction. First drop hooked a fish instantly. Fought it, landed it, bonked it, bled it and put it on the stringer and instead of being 250 yards away, in god knows what direction, I was in the exact same spot. Dropped again and instantly hooked and landed another. With the drift it is basically back bouncing for ling cod.  Looking forward to it on a day that is a bit less of a washing machine.

That’s awesome to hear! Been waiting for someone to report how the AP 120 performs offshore. Have you launched in surf yet?

Similar story at PC today, blacks and lings were on a munching frenzy with winds picking up around 10. Think pretty much everyone got their limits  :o

Fogarty is not exactly PC Surf, but it was not much different than my 2021 Outback. With a decent amount of surf, I will do what I started doing with the Outback, bring it in backwards and paddle into the wave instead of trying to surf them, which has turned out badly a few times.

It was a short day but a fun one on Sunday.  Got to meet a couple of other NWKA members and take my son out for his 1st ocean kayak fishing trip.  We each got into a half dozen lings and kept 1 each for dinner.
Highlight of the morning was almost landing a monster hitch-hiker that was trying to eat a keeper ling.  Alas, I couldn't make it fit in the net....   :D
