I had a coated steel cable with end loops, through the mirage drive hole, through the seat, around the boat, and around the steel support bars on the trailer, secured with a weatherproof keyed MasterLock tucked under the kayak. I had the boat strapped down and then covered with a tarp and bungee cords to protect it from the sun. The kayak was on the upper rack, which is 5 feet off the ground. In the future, I will only carry boats that will be used that day. I was always more concerned about someone breaking into my car than stealing the kayak. And for years, I never had a problem. But it only takes one determined crook to make a bad day.
