Yaquina River 9/22-9/26

I’m gonna be in depot bay 9/22-9/26. I’ve never fished it before but was hoping to look for coho. Was wondering what if anyone had any advice for fishing the yaquina river (where to launch, where to go, safety etc.). I’ve been reading a little about putting in at the Toledo airport boat ramp, paddling upriver and fishing down? Would really appreciate any and all advice. Also, if anyone would like to meet and fish with a blatant newbie, I’m happy to meet any of those days. Thanks for responding! I lean on all of you for how to bust into kayak fishing safely.

There is also a paddlers ramp across the river from the airport ramp so, if the parking lot is full, backtrack towards Newport on the Bay road and you'll find the paddlers ramp with a dock and restroom. I've only fished downstream from the airport in the past and only lost a few fish in the past, not recently. I remember a big flat chock full of coho with lockjaw on one trip. It was a frustrating day. They like pink offerings, I'd try spinners.

Thanks for the advice and response! I’ll try pink spinners. If you put in at that paddlers ramp and fish downstream towards the bay do you ever have a problem getting back to the ramp later in the day?

I've been there maybe 4 times ever and never had a problem and I'm just an old fart in a paddle kayak. The size of the tidal swap would make a difference but I never had a problem.

We spent 3-4 hours trolling around before the wind and chop got too fierce and we quit a bit early. Plenty of fish were marked but no bites. Here are some pics of the Port Of Toledo nonmotorized watercraft ramp. It even has a YAKport making launching super easy.
