Safely hauling your Yak and discouraging theft can be an issue when a kayak must remain outside when traveling.  In preparation of a two week jaunt I modified a home made "tailgate" designed to help protect my kayak and gear.  Made it from 3/4" plywood with a 2x2 top rail.  It drops into place and when I lock the topper it cannot be removed.  Straps inside keep the yak from sliding back.  I created a couple of wedges to keep it from rattling.  The "gate" has proven useful in my travels.

That's really smart!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?
