Launched sunset bay Saturday,  slow ride to simson reef due to a mild south wind. Caught 7 ling cod only 3 were keepers. The biggest one 26in jumped out of the cooler and swam off. I did catch another 23 in for limit and one big black.  Fished mostly with frozen herring, caught one Ling on rootbeer swim bait. Lost a nice greenling at the boat, should have used net. Texas power paddle stopped working when I got to the reef, starting working again for trip back.
Fished with another guy in a orange compass and he was knocking the ling dead on a red eel lure, nice guy even gave me a plastic.
The wind picked up out of the south and  a few white caps appeared.   I have to say for me the Compass is the perfect kayak. The bow cuts the waves and the wider back makes it feel rock solid.
Have made many modifications,  square hatch, round up front.  Texas Power Paddle,  seat risers, power pole, side H rails,  just to mention a few.
Doesn't look like another good day for simson reef in the next few weeks, boy that is a fun place to fish.

excellent, it was nice having the actual boat launch side opened up again and also still having the opening to beach launch on the south side of the day use area.

But that big 'parking' area in front of the bathrooms, that is full of giant potholes, when they finished using it to store and load gravel during the road repairs earlier this year, you would have thought they could take a few minutes and spread the last bit of gravel over that whole area to create a smooth parking/driving area. Talk about a missed opportunity to easily deal with an issue that's been getting worse for years...
