Just curious if any of ya'all are into doing training/fitness paddles on such speed oriented craft as surfskis, OC-1s, K1-style kayaks, or SUP boards.  I'm kinda starting to think i may wanna get into that sort of thing (as a fitness regimen), and was just wondering if anybody here is already on it, and therefore beaming with advice.  Especially anything to do with SUP or surfski......

Thanks,

AJ

Nice.  What'd ya get for a board?  I'm toying with the idea of a YoloYak SUP/kayak hybrid (www.yoloboard.com).

Yup, and I'm a beginner.   ::)

Also plan to do some fishing off of it, so looking for something more on the stable side and less on the "performance" side.

I know the YoloYaks do have an Angler option.  Build in rod holders and the like.  Some moderate deck rigging.  Kinda cool.  Let me know how it works out for you.  I'm debating if I wanna buy an SUP or a surfski.  Too many choices.  The later is hard to find around here, though.  At least a used on is.....

I don't know that I'd really call it a fitness regimen, but I do enjoy workout paddles before/after work when I'm limited on time. I've got a 4-5 mile out & back I do on the Columbia. Basically, get in the boat, pull on the skirt, and try to paddle non-stop the whole time. Usually make it door to door in about an hour. Try to fit in a few times a week now that days are getting longer.

Good to hear you're keeping that up, Alkasazi.  I know you enjoyed it when last we talked about this sort of thing.  I'm in a similar, er, boat, right now, and have been trying to boost my mileage.  The goal is to do 600 in a 365 day span (Oct.-Oct.).  So far, I'm on track.  The whole project is making me wanna get into a sleeker craft that's designed for such a thing.  Polepole, any plans for Ocean Kayak to reintroduce a Sprinter-like model?  I know Cobra has the Eliminator, but I think OK is done with that game.  Anyway, yeah, it'd be nice to make 1000 miles the next goal, but that may require a faster, more specialized boat....

Would love to get an OC1 someday! There's a few paddlers in my hood who go zipping around the sound and they put out some serious speed. SUP looks fun too. So many toys so little time..

You said it, Z.  The struggle is always in choosing the next purchase.  Those OC1s are insane.  Spendy, but so cool.....
