I woke up to half-decent weather on Saturday, and decided it was time to put off projects and honey-do's for a couple hours of boating and fishing. My brother-in-law Hector wanted to go as well, so we started loading up boats and gear. Weather kept jumping from sunny to showers and back, but started clearing by the time we hit the water. Paddled across to the Oregon side and worked a little rock band. Hector hit a smallmouth on his second or third cast. We made a few more passes, but no more fish. We drifted into the cove, and Hector tagged another smallmouth off an old piling.  By then it was time to head home, so we headed back across. The wind had kicked up, giving us a nice 2' swell to paddle through, and causing Hector to ask "At what point do I get knocked off the boat?" He's been in a sit-inside a couple time, but this was his first time on a SOT. He managed to stay in his seat though, and we finished the crossing without incident. Ended up being on the water a few hours longer than expected, but we had a great time, and Hector's hooked on kayak fishing. Almost all his fishing has been from the bank, and he instantly saw a whole new world open up. With an even better-looking forecast for this weekend, we're planning on heading to the John Day.

It's good to see you finally getting some time on the water Brian, you deserve it!

And that's the first time I've ever seen a bass actually being cooked.
Usually they are tossed back and turned into bragging rights.

yeah, it wasn't the tastiest thing I've ever eaten, but not bad. besides, we were really hungry. thinking next time will be beer battered & fried. that's how I remember doing it as a kid.
