OK Guys, tough dilemma here. I am looking at either a Trident 11 or Trident 15. Here is the scenario:

I currently have a Trident 13 I recently purchased and I love the boat. It is simply awesome. I have a feeling we are going to be together for a long time. That being said, I have been taking more and more folks with me. A buddy of mine is heading overseas and I have dibs on basically a new Trident 11 and Trident 15. The Trident 15 is appealing because it is a big water boat and it is an angler addition so I fancy using it on occasion. That being said, I know a number of you have moved away from the 15 towards the 13.

Since I often take women out with me on the water, I know that I often would be giving up my 13 and being forced to use the 15. I hear mixed reviews about the 15, especially if it isn't loaded down.

My other option is to buy the 11 and let other folks paddle that one around. What reviews I have read of the yak are really positive, but I am really concerned about how well it tracks, especially for beginners and how well does it keep up with a 13?

What do you guys think... don't pull any punches on me on now, lol!

Jack

Get your cake and eat it, too!  Buy them both!    :headbang:

Then you'd have your own plastic Navy.  :icon_salut:

LOL, I would love to have my own plastic navy... isn't an option this time though, too much cash outlay and not enough space!

I have the same dilema. I'm looking for a kayak for my wife.

I suppose it depends on where you would be paddling. A smaller boat is typically more maneuverable. A larger boat takes a little more effort to get started, but should cruise at a faster speed.

I'm leaning towards a smaller boat so she can carry it herself!

If anyone knows of a good deal on a Malibu Mini-X, let me know.

Check the Classifieds here (right under your Lamiglas ad) .  There was one posted there yesterday by jingram
Looks like a nice one for the price.

LOL, yep... selling a blue mini-x in the classifieds. Haven't even had it out yet. Bought it for my now ex girlfriend and looking for a larger boat to take people out in, hence the 11 or 15 debate. I have enough friends that would just not be a good fit in the mini-x and I would rather make a positive impression of the sport on them and expand our community. For your wife or a kid, the mini-x would be perfect.

Personally, I'd go with the T11.  It's should be a great fit for your wife (assuming she's not 6' 5") and you'd be able to stay in your T13.   The T15 is a great kayak, but if you're happy in your T13 I doubt you'd be happier in a T15.

Besides, the T11 will also make a great river boat for yourself if you ever want to try some advanced kayak fishing like driftboat-style steelhead fishing in moving water.

That was my thought... especially since a lot of you guys have moved away from the 15 to the 13. My main concern is how well does the 11 track. How about hull slap?

I've paddled my son's 11 a couple times. first few strokes it sways side to side a bit more, but once cruising, tracks nicely. also turns quicker than the 13. haven't noticed any more or less hull slap on the it, either.
