Gonna be visiting family in Salem, and an thinking of taking a boat along.  I thought Detroit Rez may make for a nice paddle.  No fishing, just scenery and some picture taking/bird watching.  Any favorite coves or areas that ya'all like?  Any beauty to the less traveled areas?  I'm not looking to dance with bubbas in jet sleds......

It's been a while since I've been up there, so yeah...any thoughts are appreciated.....

Oh, and any other sizable (wanna rack up some miles in the boat) yet more stunning lakes in that area (like 1 hour-ish) from Salem?

Thanks!

I'm late in responding, just returned from a fishing trip to Potholes Res in Wa. and saw your post.  I would suggest using the Mongold Ramp just east of the dam.  Head southwesterly (away from the Island and back toward the dam) across the lake toward a large inlet.  It's called the blowout arm.  There are two coves, the first has a nice creek at the head; the second continues deeper and has an old suspension foot bridge over the res., followed by a nice creek flow.  Very good trout fishing and picturesque.  It's a nice paddle day, take a lunch and enjoy.
