I was sitting here the other night diddling the computor key board trying to figure out how to plan my summer. When it hit me. There are so many lakes, pond, and shore line in this great state of ours, (sometimes being a Washtonieing is just a state of mind) Why don't we start off new web site with a simple derby/pool. By trying to see how many different lakes, ponds, and shoreline you can fish in your yak. The one who fishes the most with success wins the pool. for instance I have been meaning to fish cooper  lake over by cle elum, If I go fish that lake and catch fish then I add it to my list. Of course it will haveto be on the honor system, and you will have to have photo's or a witness. The pool doesn't have to be alot, 10 bucks a piece should be nice. Just a thought. Whats your in put. And double lakeing. You can only count a water once. Even if you fish all the time. And it's not the amount of fish caught but how many bodys of water you fish. And for those that fish big water like big ol blue, you only count a paticular area, like Neah bay is one, even if you launch from differant location. The idea is to get out on NEW waters. OK what do you think, is it to busy. It migh motivate me a little more to put the animals away and fish. ;D

Rules, rules, rules ... the DFW makes rules (and license fees!) for everything ... http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/contests/

-Allen

Fishing Contests

A fishing contest is defined as any event where six or more licensed anglers (age 15 and older) fish competively for game fish and determine winners, regardless of the prize value. A permit is required by the department and the fee is $24.00 per permit (no more than seven permits will be issued to any one permittee during the calendar year). Applications for a fishing contest permit should be submitted by November 1 of each year for contests to be held the following calendar year. After November 1, applications must be submitted no less than 30 days prior to the date for which the contest is proposed. Upon completion of a fishing contest, a final report is required to be must be submitted within 30 days. Please see the link to the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) that governs fishing events for more detailed information. Applications and final report forms may be obtained from the department at 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia, WA 98501-1091 or on-line at the link below.

Oh yes I am well aware of that rule. Only if congragated together on the same day at the same place. This is done over the summer at your own pace and not together.
I found out about the rule when we did the Chelan gig. I had contacted the DFG for the rules.

Don't get me wrong.  I like the idea.  I just want to make sure it's done "properly".  I think your proposal still falls under the "Fishing Contest" definition.  No where does it place restrictions on length of competition and boundaries of competition.  Or did DFW tell you otherwise.

Well here is the jist. The DFG biologist I talk to, who also is a friend from church, said "if there is not an obvious gathering of fisherman in a paticular area it's pretty hard to prove, ;) wink wink". I am not saying getting together to do it, I am saying if I go to cooper lake to fish, and I happen to take a picture of my fish, I add it to my "LIST". If you happen to be there on the same day, great. And if in October we all decide to get together in North Bend at the spagetti factory for a little get together and you happen to give someone some money, well whos to say...
And there is always the old Marine saying"Better to ask forgivness then to ask permission". ;D

Also the reg state that "6 or more anglers fish competively for GAME FISH" we wouldn't be fishing competively for game fish, just trying to see how many bodys of water we can fish successfuly. Splitting hairs? ya sure.

That would be kind of like bird watchers, recording each species they had sighted and where and when. I am looking forward to having more time to join you all.

Now there's a good idea too ... a species hunt.

Now how many species have I caught so far this year?  Striped bass, largemouth, lake trout, lingcod, red irish lord, cabazon, black rockfish, greenling, copper rockfish, quilback rockfish, blue rockfish.    Of course we haven't started anything.

Trout and its species, bass and its species, sunfish and its species, perch, walleye, carp, pikeminnow, salmon and its species, sturgeon, catfish and its species, crappie.  We have a lot of species in freshwater.  Shoot ... you could probably hit the potholes area and knock out 2/3 of these in a weekend.  And with all the lakes in that area, you could hit a half dozen lakes or more in doing so.  Ahhh ... loopholes in the rules ... how many lakes can you fish in 1 day?
