Are there any decent areas for catching shrimp for dinner in Oregon?  This sounds like something I'd be doing on a long fishing day, if possible.

In the March edition of Northwest Sportsman Mag they had an article on it. The shallowest spot was 6 fathoms (36 feet) which is super shallow and a mile offshore. All the spots are pretty far south too. The furthest spot north is just south of Pistol River. If you're interested I can scan and send you a map.

Brookings has 'em in Pelican Bay,
Motor or paddle out the mouth of the Chetco and start laying pots/traps on the right side of the Channel as soon as you pass the whistle bouy.
Just remember they love to lay where the sand/mud and gravel meet (fishfinder helps here), set pots during afternoon and fetch 'em after sunrise, as the Shrimp are active at night and buried in the mud during most of the daytime hours.

I wonder how much of "where to find shrimp" has to do with how much people have actually bothered to look.   Maybe no one has really tried much in near shore Northern Oregon.

True. Since the shrimping season is all but over here, you can borrow my traps if you want to try.

I'm certain there are shrimp everywhere you can find the right structure (see what boxorain said!).  But they are not all the the super tasty spot prawns.

Yeah, I'm guessing coon stripe shrimp are probably going to dominate the catch if you're not out deep enough.
