Hello…Just bought a Old Town Dirigo kayak, and only have taking it out on lakes, and I now have a freezer full of trout.  Next step is on the salt-the question is what type of clothing is recommended a full wet suit or using a farm john style.  Also, from the photos I’ve seen so far on this web site people mainly using a sit-on-top style of kayak, do I have to make any adjustments when taking out the kayak past the surf zone and where are some places to start out first.  I was thinking of P. City?

Thank you,
Jeff

Hiya Jeff :hello:

first thing; don't despair regarding your choice of boat. we have multiple members here who use SInKs and regularly fish the salt.

Nanook, army jim and yakker come to mind. i think please send rescue also has one.  we might tease each other about boat choice, but thats ususally all in fun..

one of the main attractions to SOTs is that they are easier to board than a traditional form of yak, and lend themselves handily to personalization/ modification.

do you use a spray skirt with your dirigio or is it more of a rec boat cockpit? [larger hole than standard kayak] what have you been wearing while fishing on the lakes?

wet suits have thier place, but i'm going to let more experienced members give you advice on what to wear. you'll get a far better range of ideas and choices.

enjoy your boat. hope we meet up some day.
