Greetings,

I'm brand new to this forum and have been reading the threads. I'm slowly acquiring enough information to make a choice on a "yak". I saw the OK Factory closing post and noticed REI was having a sale also. Don't know if it will be worth a trip to Ferndale or not.

I went to the REI Demo Day a few weeks ago and had a ball checking out all the different models.

Mid month I'm going to Alder Creek and taking their kayaking course and take notes. (I didn't at the demo days and regret not remembering which ones I liked and disliked)

I plan on staying in fresh water for my fishing trips and am looking forward getting out probably in August after a planned backpacking trip.

Thanks!

well, cool. thats the best way to take it slow and get what you want right out the gate.  some of us just jumped in with both feet, and we havent looked back.

thanks for lurking, and more importantly, welcome to a great site full of really decent open people.

we can also help you better if you tell us more about yourself. where are you, what type fish you go after , etc.

regardless, welocme.
Rich

Welcome O2,

Where you at the Portland REI demo day?  You probably saw me there at the Ocean Kayak booth with my fishing kayaks.

If you have any questions let us know, I'm sure there is plenty of free advice here for you to sift through.

Brian,

Yes, I saw you and talked to you briefly about the kayaks you had there. It was right at the beginning, I was really impressed with the way the larger one was outfitted.

A bit more about myself.......I'm located between Molalla and Silverton, been hunting big game for years, bow and rifle but the last few years have pretty much limited myself to upland birds. I have a 1/2 acre pond with small mouth bass, bluegill, catfish, and carp. I just rediscovered fishing and started fly fishing my pond using a Ross # 4 fly rod and hooking the bluegill and bass usually late evenings after work. It's a great stress reliever and I'm hoping to get into fly tying over the next year or so.

I have a Coleman Crawdad that I use to row around the pond and I love the exercise I get from doing that.

I'm doing a back pack trip at the end of July with Wilderness Volunteers:

I'll start out exploring local waterways and fishing Oregon for Trout, Bass maybe someday hit the coast but that's down the road a bit.
