One of our newest members, TommyD, lives just around the corner from me. He is new to kayak fishing but has already been out of Depoe Bay and early this morning we headed out from Cape Kiwanda. FFTW was nowhere to be seen.  :hello:  It was a bit foggy when we launched all rigged up through the 1-2' ankle slappers. Lots of dories heading out for coho. I hooked up with a nice, fat black on the leeward side of the rock but TommyD wasn't getting the love. I moved around a bit and tossed back a few smaller blacks while TommyD was figuring things out. A few minutes later...TommyD scores!

A few minutes later, you guessed it...BENDO

Later, after heading out for deeper water in search of LINGZILLA, I caught my first rockfish double. Not to be out done...here's TommyDs answer.

A triple!

I did fairly well with the blacks but didn't take many pictures. On the water, here's my juvenile yelloweye that was CPR'd. Thanks for the ID help everyone.

And my AOTY upgrade worth 1.75 points...

Now TommyD just needs to get his son TJ a yak and get him out as well.

As we paddled in, we saw what looked like a kayak or two sitting in the sand. It turned out to be FFTW and Madoc. I guess they decided to sleep in.   ;)

Panko cabezon, couscous and a salad make a nice dinner. 8)

looks like a great day on the water.  Any luck in the search for lingzilla?  What did the top fish on Tommyd's triple turn out to be?

All 3 were blacks. One was tiny but I think the other 2 were keepers.

Excellent job Jay!  You've come a long way.

I thought maybe an irish lord on the of Tommyd's daisy chain.  Must just be the lighting.

Amen to that.  Great job!  From feeding the fish to putting the hurt to them in less than a year!

It was cool seeing you guys coming in.  I honestly tried to get out early (up at 430), but things conspired against me.   Which actually worked out, because I got to hang out with FFTW.

That was a great string of fish you had on, and the folks on the beach were mightily impressed.  My mom may have gotten some shots - if she did, I'll post them.

Cheers,
Madoc

Z,
I've taken Scopace the past few trips and it seems to work for me. However, the seas were in the <4ft range. Yesterday was the first time I experienced the dreaded dry mouth side effect. It wasn't too bad but I'm still not going to drink much while on the water (until I have a relief zipper anyway).  ;D

Tom, sorry I missed you on the way out. I figured you needed to get home for work. I still have your pliers in my car.
