Goop will hold it down, but will eventually get bubbles in it.  And will most likely get the bubbles in it at the least opportune time. I orginally gooped mine down in my T-13 and didn't like the performance.  It was stuck down good, but using a putty knife with some persuasion it popped off.

I don't understand why you don't just do the water in the foam trick.  Sure ya gotta add water each trip, but you won't have bubbles to deal with.  I just use a plastic syringe and added a tube to the end so I can just pull up some water from the lake/ocean/river/water bottle, and squirt it in there.  Takes two squirts and maybe 1 minute of my life to do.  Don't have to deal with it again all day.

Ya may want to Google "Permanent Wet Transducer Installation" for more ideas.

Thanks.  I didn't know bubbles formed in MG.

I'm stubborn, pig-headed, my middle name is MacGyver, and my uncle was Rube Goldberg.

I've done the in the foam and it worked.  I didn't like the idea of pulling the transducer out of the foam reservoir every trip to fill with water.  Over time the foam will get beat up.

Then don't remove the 'ducer.  When I cut my foam out for my 'ducer, I purposely made a notch at the "handle" end so that I could apply the water through that port. All I do is lift slightly on the "handle" once or twice to release any bubbles.  All is good!

Get yourself a plastic syringe and push/screw on a small length of tubing that you can reach the water down into the foam puck easier. No mess, no fuss, no spill.   8)

Don't worry about the Poole noodle wearing out on you. I've been reusing the same piece of pool noodle for the last 4 years or so with no issues.

I got to test the reduced amount of grease transducer mount yesterday.

First I cleaned out the foam ring, then coated the bottom of the reservoir with about 1/8" of grease.  Nothing better for this than a finger.  Tried to get the layer as even and smooth as possible.  Then I coated the bottom of the transducer with the same amount plus and additional 1/8" as a ridge along the "rear" edge.  The transducer was then pressed into the foam ring from the back.  The idea was that the extra grease at the "rear" of the transducer would squish along in a wave filling all the voids and squish out around the point.  Perhaps I did not need the uniform 1/8" transducer coat and only the grease "ridge".

On the water the transducer seemed to be working normally as I left the beach.  I had a bottom lock all the way out to about 707' of water depth.  Then I lost the bottom.  No bottom trace, nothing in the RTS window, no change in depth text display.  The end of the bottom trace eventually worked it way off the screen and the screen was blank.  Note in the photo that the return started to fade around 400'.

I went out a bit further turned around and headed back.  I had unreliable depth readings (just flashing text) from about 750' to 550' when the bottom return returned to the screen.

I've been in the same location before and seen depths over 800' and never lost bottom lock.  So the question now is, was it water conditions or the grease mount that degraded sonar performance?  The unit is set for "deep salt water", 1500' maximum depth, and 1 ping per second.

At this point I am going to play with the mount a bit more.  I'll rock it a bit more to try and get any excess grease to squish out.  It seems to be performing well enough for fishing, so I am happy to run it this way for a while until I can determine if the loss of bottom lock was due to water conditions.

I cleaned out even more grease and reset the transducer.  I've not had a chance to test the latest greased mount because I am still waiting for the end of the 3 week post-cataract surgery prohibition on water sports to lapse on 16 August, which, coincidentally, is the start of a 2-week staycation   :D
