Yikes! Talk about pucker factor!
Guys down in San Diego started carrying slingshots and paintballs on their yaks. While that might work for the smaller CA sealions, I don't think I would try that on these stellars up here. It'd probably backfire and just end up tickin' them off more :angryfire:

Nice catch Zee.

I think I know where you were fishing, There are some grumpy sea lions in that area.  Very territorial critters.  I do my best to keep a safe distance from those guys.

So there I was supermanning it sideways on a foam ball. It finally let me go and I was in pretty deep water. I was thinking to jump back on and paddle for the next one but there was no time.

Awesome report man.  I like that description, I know that move!

Great to see even after doing a huli you didn't loose your catch!

Yeah, once you're face to face w/ these guys the last thing you'd think about is taking it on. The size difference is amazing. Spot is not joking when he says GIANT head. That close up it doesn't even look real.

Great to see even after doing a huli you didn't loose your catch!
I put my fish in a Katch Kooler and stow in in my yak so no chance of loosing them. Cheap ($20) flexi cooler @ Outdoor Emporium or online. Held all my fish that day. http://www.sportco.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=43907&idcategory=466

I was once surfing near Oceanside on a small summer day.  The day was slightly foggy, with no wind.  Sharky, even.  My then-girlfriend was hungry and paddled in, leaving me alone to float in a small cove-like setting.  I heard what I thought was a SCUBA tank bleeding air.  I turned and looked at the source, only to see a head three times the size of mine.  A lone male elephant seal was 30 feet away and staring at me.  He was small, with barley a proboscis, but sizable nonetheless.  I didn't sense any aggression, but I wanted no part of it.  The size of the head terrified me.  I quickly paddled in, and watched him feed about the area for nearly an hour.  It was the first and only one I've seen in Oregon.  Amazing creature, but scary.
