Targeting salmon in Puget Sound, is tide condition or time of day the more important factor?  If given the choice between mid-tide in the morning and slack tide later in the afternoon which would you choose and why?

My preferences are in the following order:

1) Sunrise ... grey light bite!!!
2) Any morning tide change
3) Any tide change
4) Sunset ... mostly because I don't like getting off the water in the dark

Between the two I would have to say the AM swing would be best for the following reasons.

More risky behavior by fish because of the limited sunlight.  (think of two prisoners escaping a prison and waiting for the spotlight to sweep past them).

Less boat traffic on the water or shoreline.

There is more predictable fishing when fish are limited to hunting with their lat-line's (vs lat-lines & sight)
(think about how many color patterns there are for salmon fishing compared to styles or shapes)

More predictable and subtle wind swells in the AM.  The bottom of the food chain( krill and plankton) live and die by these things.  last nights air pressure shift will place these tiny morsels in tightly packed and "predictable" locations.  Work your way up the food chain..NO!! go back down Jeffrey Dahmer!! Yeah.. Salmon. (whew that was a close one)

And Lastly,  You have more time to clean and season your fish for BBQ.

Just my thoughts.
Brian
