I have seen a few mentions of the sonar shield but when I did a search for it, it was not explained for what it was and what it does. Could someone please explain?
Thanks,
David

If I am not mistaken, Ocean Kayak brand kayaks that are designed for accomodating fishing gear have a covered well at the front of the footwell where the fishfinder unit can tuck into.  Protective lid, etc.

Like troutnut said, it's a compartment for your fishfinder.  What I like best about it is the fact that it shields your FF from sunglare.

Thanks guys. I had read about the sonar shield mod and wondered what was being referred to.

Then I thought, maybe a shield to keep all of that sonar energy from harming a person's procreation chances for the future. (Think cell phones and radiation to your brain) Well, I took care of the procreation question a few years back so I don't have to worry about that.

Then I thought that it's the transducer that would be radiating the energy and with the sonar shield up on deck it just didn't make any sense. I just had to ask.

Thanks again and cheers,
David

If one is worried about cell phone "radiation" and the like just consider, every second of every day you have HUNDREDS of radio stations and television channels, not to mention 100s of other wireless signals coursing through your body.
