Hey everyone hows it goin?  Well I'm lookin to purchase my first kayak and I've had my eye on a wilderness system tarpon 140 angler... the primary place I'd be paddling is out on the sound down in MA's 9-13 and will be fishing out of it... also wondering what you all think of the idea of adding a set of scotty outriggers for the purpose of standing and fly fishing, would it be worth it?  Well any info you can give will be much appreciated.   ;D

The Hobie AMA Sidekick is a very similar system, for about $150 bucks instead of $250 to $300.  Downside is it does not use Scotty rodholder mounts.  Then again, how would you use the Scotty mounts for outriggers and rod holders at the same time?  The Hobie system can be used on other non-Hobie boats.

However, I am now a Hobie true believer... the ability to pedal and have your arms free to fish is pretty awesome, and since you are using your legs, you can maintain a high rate of speed on the water for a very long time.  The Hobie Revolution might be comparable to a Tarpon  140.

Yeah using the rod holders and the out riggers at once would be a pain but you can use them without the rod holders as well which is what I'd do... but as for the hobie cat yak's meh I dont know I looked at them and didnt really liek tham all that much... but thanks for the info threeweight... ok now my next question for everyone is how does one fish for salmon out of a kayak besides the obvious jigging or mooching?  Can you troll?  If so how would you rig your gear up (and if possible not use a downrigger)?  Cause I'll be honest I've only fished for trout in lake chelan many moons ago in a kayak and dont remember how I did it... ??? so yeah I need some help in that area to say the least...

Redfish

One possible option is one or two of the amas from www.kayrak.com

The Tarpons are nice yaks and higly rated but one BIG negative for me and my T-120 is that the hatches tend to come loose and blow off during transport.  Don't ask me how I know  :-[.

BradS, that link didn't work for me.

Other yaks to consider if you want to be able to stand up on them without an outrigger are the Ocean Kayak Big Game Prowler, the Malibu XFactor, and the Wilderness System Ride.  Speaking of the ride, pjrflyguy here has one and I've seen him stand up and flycast from it.  Haven't seen him around lately, but I'm sure he'll pop up and comment one of these days.
