The wife is away so it's time to fish.  ;D

I need to be in Portland Saturday evening so I thought paddling Multnomah Channel for the day might be fun. There must be a hungry sturgeon or two hanging out and some silver bullets passing through to bite a Kwikfish or spinner.

On Sunday, I'll be heading for the coast...either salty if conditions allow or T-bay if not.

Comments? Questions? Company?

I'm down - finally have a hole in my schedule, and my normal Saturday am commitment is on hold until November, so I can be free Saturday AM, and maybe Sunday as well

This is assuming, of course, that I am not debilitated by a hangover or otherwise.

Still plans for Multnomah Channel tomorrow?  I don't have an anchor setup yet, but I did just pick up a heavy rod for sturgeon.

Not sure I can make the Coast on Sunday AM, several other commitments.

Yes, although my crack of dawn starts aren't always the same as others, I hope to be out there as early as I can. I'll be hitting Fishermans after work for some herrring, squid, sand shrimp or any other smelly crap they have.

Sunday at the coast is still the plan...

Check the weather at the coast before you head down Sunday..  I fished Tillamook bay today, saw a couple caught (3) :(, lots of company in the upper bay, but no fish for me. It got a little to windy and I headed for the barn a little after the high tide.  Weather is not supposed to improve more rain and wind.  Went by PC for a late lunch this afternoon and it was nasty, surf that is, lunch was great ;D.

I'll be fishing until about 2pm or so on Saturday. I've got to be at the hospital by 4:30. Unfortunately, low tide is about 1:15 so I'll only catch the beginning of the flood.

I will likely be on the water by 9am.

Woke up feeling like cr*p. No fishing for me today. I am still hoping to hit PC or Tillamook tomorrow, conditions permitting.

Very windy at the coast right now.  I can see white caps on Netarts as I write this.  Hope its better tomorrow and I get another shot at a chinook.

Beautiful morning today, too bad I didn't get there until 9:30. On the way in, I saw tons of SinKs on the road, at the lower Nestucca boat launch and Cape Kiwanda. I completely forgot about the sea kayak symposium today.

The breakers were a solid 4 foot but the swell looked very manageable...and NO wind. Although it was only 2 hours past low tide, the water was far up the beach so I decided to park in the lot and drag. As expected with 4 foot waves and sitting on a barge, getting through the surf zone was an effort. I just happened to be going out along side the advanced surf group. They were impressed that I'd even try the surf zone in a SOT.

The swells turned out to be a bit bigger than I thought from the shore, but still manageable. Did I mention that I decided to try going without Scopace today?  :o  Since I would be alone out there, I decided lingzilla would have to come to me inside of the haystack. My second cast in the kelp brought in a fat 19" black. This was looking to be a good morning. I found a productive S-N drift over a 5' drop in depth and structure....hmmmmm, this feels fishy. About 2 drifts later, I felt a load but no wimpy rockfish head shakes. Brought it up a bit, and then freight train to the bottom again...ling ling time. It was very chunky but my nice, newish Werner paddle doesn't have any measurements on it like my old paddle...DOH! It probably was legal but I tossed it back for karma.  ;)

Clouds are holding well offshore, still no wind, but the fog is slowly rolling down the coast now. Same drift, same results with 3 more definite underlings. I even brought in a small cabbie. Even if cabbie season was still open, this one would go back. Unfortunately, this little piggie inhaled my best jig, the one I've caught ALL my fish on today. I struggled for a long time to get it out and realized the battle was futile. It was time to cut the line and give him a chance at surviving. Did I mention I decided to go without Scopace today?  :o  After staring at my hands and the cabbie for a bit, my tummy started getting a bit floppy. Oh, the fog is getting closer too. Hmmm, my drift has changed to W-E as well. Time to head in and do this again some other day. Load rods and FF, clip in all gear, start paddling in. Wow, these swells are way over my head, even out here. This ought to make an interesting landing... 8)

I spoke to one of the surf instructors on the water. He said it was starting to pick up and it was going at 6-8 feet about this time. They were having a good timie. I gave them a laugh by explaining I was there to show them all of the surf zone mistakes at one time... What I can say, is that I didn't pitch a** over tea kettle. I was in a good position but the wave took control faster than I could even try to brace. One of the participants was on the beach with a camera so I figured he'd get a great video of my upcoming huli...as it was a good one. No such luck on the evidence. He was actually watching his wife out on a wave....imagine that!!!

The yak made it to shore upside down and then righted itself with no help. I, on the other hand, was left to fend for myself in the surf. I actually enjoyed it as it brought back memories of kayak surfing in SoCal a long time ago. Since everything was clipped in or stowed, I just took a quick inventory...DAMN, I completely forgot about stowing my flag!  >:(  I guess that was today's donation.

A good day to be out there, especially to practice in the surf. As I got to the beach, the haystack was gone, completely fogged in. I guess my flag was a small price today. Zee, any more????
