I was wondering if anyone is catching steelhead off Whidbey right now? Shore or 'yak...I have a 3 day weekend and the rivers look blown, looking for any ideas out that way...

I've only paddled the S side of whidbey, across from pt. townsend, haven't fished it.

I will say that currents can get moving faster than a yak can move along that high sand wall directly across from pt. townsend. I'd be sure and check the current predictions before you go.

I think maybe he was talking about the shore based steelhead fishery at Bush Point.

They were catching fish around New Years in the bay north of the restaurant.  I was staying at Bush Point for a few days during the New Years wind/rain storms.  Folks were fishing the day before the storms started, then showed up 3 days later after the storms had passed.  I brought shore gear, but the weather kept me from fishing.

Speaking of tidal currents, what are some good resources for Puget Sound current flows?  I know the west side of Whidbey can get moving, but most of the east side of the island seems pretty decent (from memory)

UW has an experimental site: Boater Information System (BIS).  Use your glasses, college kids have good eyes and use tiny fonts.

http://bis_portal.apl.washington.edu/bis_portal_app.php

You can display everything together, towns & marinas, temp, current, and winds.

If you have suggestions for the development team (like a larger font option) they are responsive to contact.
