Imho, it's very tough to beat the REI Quarter Dome tents for value.  They are free-standing, which is no small matter to me.  They're really easy to pop up and they are very light for their size.  Buy the 2 man for just yourself or the 3 man for you and one more.  Put it together with one of those 6' x 8' or 8' x 10' blue tarps for a protective ground pad and it should last you quite a while.

;D been doin that for years with a restaruant sized tomato can.
Butt, the 'mater can doesnt pack as easy as that.
I also use the large size campbells soup can for a sterno stove. A great way to warm your hands quickly when yer bank fishing or heating small amounts of water for coffee, pack foods, etc.

if you want to get super hardcore you can make a stove with a cotton ball dipped in vaseline and a beer can.

I like all those for back ups, but nothing beats turning on the jet engine that is an msr stove to have water boiling in 30 seconds for coffee on a cold morning.

Nanook, no question I will enjoy the new MSR Dragonfly added to the Revo gear last week.  It is fun to spot some potential backup.  Who knows what all will end up in the gear hunt since I am starting from scratch.
Sure is fun doing the homework and purchasing. The real test will be the fit in/on the Revo. So far so good.
