I caught my first winter steely in my life. I got it floating down the clackamas from a hobie outback. The next day I went back and did it again. Not bad for my first year. ;D ;D

Very nice.  Double very nice for doing it again the next day.  Those would have been some nice AOTY points for you, I guess you'll have to settle for fillets and the sense of accomplishment.

How was the float between Carver and Riverside?  What was the river level when you did it?  I keep meaning to try the Clackamas as it is my nearest steelhead river, but for some reason I keep going out to the coastal rivers.

I think the river was flowing between 13.5' and 14'(estacada station) the weekend before last when I hooked em. 14 feet is the max that I would ever consider floating down and thats really pushing it when fishing alone. If you ever want to tag along, i'll show you all the spots ive found. Hit me back if your interested. I could always use the company. Now that Im starting to get into some bigger fish it might be time to sign up for AOTY. The year is still very young! Tight lines!

Nice fish...I fish the Clack a lot.  If I see you out there I'll come over for a visit.  The river was prime and pumping out fish 2 weekends ago.  Nice job!

Righteous! That's supa cool, man. I'm on my seventh trip down the rivers with no steelie to show for it yet, I am jealous! If you ever drag your kayak over to the coast, you should show me how to do that! Congrats, Jonah

Thanks for the pics and report! Nice work! Were you pulled up on a bar, or on the bank and  standing out of your yak fishing?  Or anchored and fishing from it, when you caught those? Or side-drifting or some other method? Just curious. Thanks!

I was side drifting one of the many runs on the river when i caugt the first steel(29.5"). It was caught using a small chunk of cured eggs and small slinky. WHAMMO! It took me about 6 minutes to tire it out on the water, then we headed to the bank to land. I didn't have a net, so I just had to tire it out and then drag it on the bank. The second steel(27.5") was caught pretty early the next morning using my same drifting technique, however this one was caught drifting a small imitation pink worm and slinky. There's so many nice runs and holes on this river its insane. Perfect for a fishing kayak(as long as the water isn't to insanley high). I will float with anyone thats "capable", just send me a message. I'm dying to catch some rock fish out in the ocean or get into a sturgeon if you want to swap techniques. Or we can just go rip some rip some lips on the clack. The Hobie I use also helps because it allows me to peddle back upstream and repeat runs a few times before moving on. The only other Steelhead I have ever caught from a kayak was the summer steelhead that I'm including a picture of below. Its because of this fish below(my first from the clack in a kayak last summer) and I've been absolutley "hooked" on Kayak fishing ever since. Thanks for reading and Tight Lines!
