Man, what a difference a day makes. Launched from the same place but took a hard left and fished the back side... landed 1/2 dozen lings, with one going about 7 pounds), a fat 5# cabezon, a bunch of rockfish, and even a giant starfish by accident. Kept the cabezon for the dinner table and released the rest. Super fun... beautiful day. You guys have a sweet backyard!

Right on Trout.  You know, I'm going to have to make it up there to kayak fish one of these days.  I always seem to end up going up there for a couples weekend that doesn't involve fishing.   >:(

Ummm ... do you realize that you are required to keep the first legal rockfish caught?  Don't want you getting in any trouble now.   ;)

Any greenling?  If it slows down a bit, size your offering down some and fish right in the kelp bed.  That'll entertain you for a little bit.

Pictures?  We want pictures!!!   ;D

Good news is that we did get a few photos. Bad news is that they are on another camera. As soon as I get them I will forward to you for posting.

Considering that I had no clue as to where I was and still caught this many fish (with some very nice ones in the mix), then yeah... you need to give it a go. I am still itching at the salmon boils I watched from the shore at South Beach the other day. They were casting distance from shore.

To answer your question, yes. Unfortunately I figured out the routine too late. As reeled up from my last drop (had to get back to the fam), I boat drifted by and a guy pulled up a beautiful greenling. It looked to be about 2# and had a beautiful color. He was using cut bait with smaller hooks on a dropper loop. I should have down-sized for some of those. However, I probably caught the big fish with the big bait. I caught some on a motor-oil single-tail grub with a small strip of squid and the others were on a blue and chrome iron with a squid strip on the hook.

Thanks again for all the input... not sure if I'll be able to fish again, but I sure had fun.
