Hi,

I've been a reader but not a poster for a while here on the board; I discovered my Hobie Mirage Outback missing this morning (I live in Seattle).  This is the tan ("ivory dune") 12'1" model ... reward offered for it's recovery.  I can identify my exact boat.  I'd really just like it back ... finders fee for anyone that can direct me to anyone selling this boat online or in person.  I highly doubt the thief is frequents this forum so this is really a request to keep an eye out for too-good-to-be-true Kayak deals - you'll get a better deal from me!

Thanks

Wild Man

Yarjammer,

Good eye - it is that model/color but not that exact boat unfortunately.  Thank you for replying.

Sigh ... distinguishing marks ... aside from a few dings and minor scratches I can identify, I dind't have the foresight to make any nor to take any pictures.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why my next boat will have:

1. Name stenciled inside and out
2. Stickers to make it "mine"
3. Storage away from street view (key point)
4. and I will buy a better lock ... and then use it

I hope others can learn from my mistakes.

There's a special place in hell for boat thieves. They paddle a lake of fire while being harassed by jet skis and romantically inclined bank fisherman. Sorry about your loss. Maybe a discussion of boat security will help us all. I mean do most of you use bike locks through the drain hole? I know Lee sleeps in his boat and drools upon a steaming .357 magnum. I think a security primer would be useful...

Actually bro, I don't sleep in the yak.  But I do keep it under the bed.  It's a .40 S&W.

One of the few benefits of being single lol currently my yak resides in the middle of my living room.

To wild man sorry for your loss you never know there still might be a happy ending.

There's a special place in hell for boat thieves.

Andyjade is right, there is a special hell for thiefaz of boat. (BTW Andy, nice hat!)

I had a boat stolen last year and I actually got it back. I am also one of the luckiest SOB's on the planet, but I learned a few things from the experience. Find your paper work and find the serial numbers. Post pictures in as many forums like this that you can find and go talk with whatever authority is in charge of theft. They have access to pawnshop lists and it sometimes amazing how stupid thieves are. (Mine used his name and address for the shit that he pawned) ::)

Again, I'm stupid lucky and a fellow on the board down here that I'd met before is a police Sargent. He saw my post on Monday and I found the boat by Thursday. Don't know if it'll work that well for you, but it's worth the effort. :dontknow:

Speaking of re-sellers.  Is Re-rack in PDX considered a pawn shop?  When I was in there buying some stuff, a tweeker looking dude came in with an brand new looking Thule snow board rack.  I did not see if they took down his info, but I don't think they have to since I don't believe they are considered a pawn shop. I could be wrong (and I apologize if I am), or I may have missed them recording his information. All I know is that the dude did not look like a person that had ever been on a snow board, or even out of the Felony Flats area of SE Portland, in his life.  By the amount of teeth he had left he was either near the end of his tweeking career, or he was in the senior league of the UFC.

Sorry for your loss Wild Man.  I hope you get it back.

-Craig

Again, sorry for your situtation.  I have decals all over my hull, and I have pictures of my hulls serial number.  Hopefully luck will prevail and your hull will be found in sound working order!
