Let me start off by saying,Great Site! I start back to work in Grand Ronde in mid june,Im a wildland firefighter for them,I will be staying in my rv,So i have a couple of questions for you guru's
I get off work at 4:30 pm,I can make it to PC about 5,Is there any place to fish until dark? I have fished the boat launch below the bridge last year from the shore,Im wondering if making out to haystack or in the somewhere in the area to fish from the yak, after work until dark?
Also what size yak? Is a 10' tarpon to small? for the ocean? Maybe setting some crab traps over night,Im just looking for stuff to do,I live in southern part of the state,so theres not much for me to do after work,I can only lose so much money at the casino. Thanks

There's plenty of guys on here that have fished there before that would know way more then me but,
I think you could fish the salt at PC for a while before it got too dark.
If you launched at say 5:30 that's still 3 1/2 hours of good light left in June. It would be an awsome time to fish as long as the wind backed down

Keep in mind PC is a surf launch, so take all the factors of safety into consideration, would hate to have it get dark and a picked up swell to have to land in..
See ya on the water..

You could also hit Devils Lake in Lincoln city for some freshwater fishing, or fish/crab the Salmon river mouth area.

Or you could night crab a minus tide in Netarts bay and just paddle around with a head lamp in shallow water and just reach down and pick up the crab.

Welcome to the site ratagain!

PC is a great place to fish. It has one of the best surf launches on the north Oregon coast and as far as other details go, it's tough to beat IMO. You'll be fine out there in a 10' kayak. However, there is a lot to consider if you plan on going out to fish in the ocean. I would strongly suggest that you make it a top priority to get setup with a clothing system that will keep you warm should you happen to take a unplanned swim and a quality PFD to match. Also, I highly recommend that you make sure you have someone with some experience in the area with you for at least your first few times out there, especially if you've never made a surf launch/landing. I'll be fishing PC pretty frequently in the next couple of months and you're welcome to come along. I usually fish in the mornings though. Keep an eye out on the Oregon Fishing thread as many people including myself usually post up when they are planning to go.

Welcome again and tight lines!

Ya just gotta find a night when the low tide is at night.  The lower the tide the better.  In fact if you get lucky and find a night when the tide is a minus 2, odds are good that the upper mid bay will be drained to the point the crab are just sitting in the crab grass waiting for the water to come back in.  You can stake out your yak at the waters edge with a modified ski pole, and walk the grass looking for bumps.  That'll be a crab.

DTS and I went out on New Years day this year, launched around 6 pm, and got off the water around midnight.  Had a freaking blast!   The creatures you get to see at night are amazing.  We lucked out and had glass conditions with perfect clarity in the water with our headlamps on.  Paddled slowly over 6" -12" water and just reached over and grabbed the keepers by hand or colapsable fishing net.  I think we ended up with 7 HUGE crab.  We were not going for quantity, instead we were going for size.  Most were over 7" across.
