Would members be interested in an outing at a lake, for example, Coldwater in WA, or Barney Reservoir in the coming months? Haven't fished either out of a yak yet but heard it would be an effective tool to cover all that water. Typically fish Coldwater with small flies on an intermediate sink line and hear Barney has a decent Hexagenia hatch in June...(Barney gate closes around July 4th to ward off fireworks users on land in that area however) Maybe some other trouty lakes? Possible on a Saturday, your input would be appreciated, thanks

Cool idea, wish I weren't so slammed. Then, again, you never know- the stars could align so that I have time.

I would consider some of the gentler river sections, too, and other species, such as smallmouth bass.

June is filling up a bit, however July on, and I sure would have some interest.
Tell us about the pontoons you are using, when you use them and your over all thoughts, what type of Yak are you using?  I have a Hobie Revo and occassionally think standing up to cast would be most helpful.  What is the pontoon water drag like? How does it effect thespeed and manuverability

If you're ever out to Hood River let me know. I've hit Lost and Laurance Lakes in the early summer months. There are a few up too near Mt. Hood that are pretty decent.

good choices for the yak, since Laurence lake can be windy as hell and you could get around way faster in a yak

The best fishing (dry fly etc) on Lost is in the far corner which is a long kick for tubers from either put in...Lost has like 5 different kinds of trout a hex hatch and is really pretty also. It is really deep also and has tons of crayfish, I saw a bunch of big browns deep on my meter and have given thought to dropping some Berkley soft crayfish down with my spinning rod to try and get them, also brood stock steelhead are put in there...

let's keep in touch and see if we can find some common place for a yak rondi?

My schedule is full through June, but I'd enjoy a kayak flyfishing get-together. Looks like there's a mix of OR and WA folks, which might mean that Coldwater, or maybe Merrill, would be good from a logistics standpoint.

Lost Lake, WA?  Just SW of Shelton?

Lost Lake, OR?  Just N of Mt. Hood?

I'd be up for coming down and fishing if my schedule allows. I'll keep lurking and watching for a date to be set. Sounds fun!

Gotta be the Lost Lake in OR, demonick, since the one in Mason Co doesn't have browns stocked in it.

I'm up for a flyfishing get together sometime after the 4th of July.  I like Coldwater Lake, but I never seem to get up there enough. Merril would be a good one. I'm too busy right now to plan anything until after mid July. Late April thru mid July is my busy period, and I never have enough free time now to plan for anything. Nearly all of my fishing during this period is a spontaneous choice after inhaling too much pollen and dust and sticking a wetted finger to the breeze and saying "Screw it! I'm outta here!" and then racing the work truck back to the barn, grabbing my fishing gear, loading up the yak and then finally... GONE FISHIN!  Too much going on!
The beater work truck just started leaking coolant. Now I have to change the water pump. Always fighting a losing battle with entropy, tch, tch.  ::) Another fishing day yanked! >:(

yes, lost lake near Mt. hood was it, they even put brood stock steelhead in there at times, well, I'll try and post some dates this Summer and see what sort of response we get, I'm guessing most people are closer to Coldwater, but there are some other nice options also...and I can bring fly patterns that are effective some extra rods for newbies etc...

Sorry for your woes.  At least a water pump in a beater truck is usually an easy and fast DIY.  Use a brass brush to clean off the gasket sealant as steel will eat the aluminum.

Don't ask.

Thanks demonick. It used to be that nearly everything I had was broken or breaking down all the time. Things have been looking up lately, but this is a good reminder. I've done this same task before twice in a row (after the auto parts store gave me a bum replacement part that failed after a couple hundred miles. They offered to give me a free exchange on the bum "remanufactured"  water pump, but they didn't offer to give me back the day of my life that went down the drain, so I will never shop at the Aberdeen, WA Napa Auto Parts store again. I told them "No thanks, but I can't take another chance on your crummy parts, so please give me my money back," and went to another place where they supplied me with a good one).
I use a single edge razor blade and/or a slightly curved knife to remove old gasket, and very carefully so I don't gouge anything. I have a brass brush, too.
I'm going to be grinding, osphoing, fiberglassing and rattle-canning this rustbucket to slow things down and give it more character soon, anyway. Its now just a local beach "crummy.".

I know an absolutely killer dry pattern for Coldwater Lake. Another fly fisher who lives in Battle Ground, WA turned me onto it. Its just a simple black or dark chocolate soft-hackle tied on a small (sizes 18 thru 14) dry fly hook. Uses a dubbed body and a few turns of CDC hackle. Only drawback is you need the silica stuff to dry 'em off once they get wet and slimed, though.

At times, there are huge Carpenter Ant and Termite hatches going on up there, what with all the downed timber in the area. Just gotta luck out and be there at the right time for those. So always have Carpenter Ant and Termite patterns when you head up there, especially late summer when those hatches occur.
