Made a trip down to Cali to see family and friends and set out one day to go kayak fishing with ChuckE of NCKA. As luck would have it the conditions were perfect while the fishing was med hot. No wind and 2-5 foot swell is what we started with and didn't change much all day. Fishing started off pretty slow with lots of small fish. We scraped around and finally started to get into some schools of olives, vermillions, and Chuck got a rare Tiger Rockfish. I got a nice big copper that went about 20" but no lings or cabbies. We finally settled into a spot where the cabbies were really messing with us like they almost always do. We worked at it and before long Chuck's rod was stuck in bendo mode. It was really pig dogging and could only be a cabby or ling. As luck would have it a goldy ling was on the end and went about 34". Fired up from the fight I kept to it and figured if there's one down there there's more. I dropped down a Norwegian cog jig and bounced it around a while. The day was just about up when there was a small hit and then it went heavy. There was a lot of kelp around so wasn't 100% sure it was a fish. I kept pulling and reeling and wondered just what I hooked into. Chuck finally said "I think it's a ling and hasn't woken up yet." 3 seconds later a couple of big head shakes. A couple of more cranks on the Toro and there she was, a big ling just swimming with a chrome cigar hanging out of the corner of its mouth. I took it real slow and nailed her with the gaff. This one was a twin of Chucks' with the same color and also going 34". That was the day and went home. Nice variety of fish and always good to hang out with good people.

BTW the Revo Toro performed really well. Drag was nice and silky and palmed perfectly. Paired with a borrowed Trevala I jigged all day and was very comfortable.
