The pinks are here. Had a very hot afternoon of fishing at the local spot. Rigged up my hoochie w/siwash hooks (after a good chat w/ a NCKA'r) and trolled the haunts. No sooner than 20 min. into is I get my first good hookup. Feisty bugger kept the fight going a good 15 min. Pulled in a good 3lb. pink. 10 min. later another great fight that landed a second nice pink. After that got a really heavy hookup, no doubt a really nice fish but came unbuttoned. One more try before blackout and hooked up another really nice fish. This was a real tanker.. 15 min. later the line snapped... on 25lb. test. I kept the drag on the light side but he'd make these violent runs that started all of a sudden and I think that led to the breakage. All in all a great night of fishing. Pics following of the fish & fillets.

Z man.  You're money on the pinks.  Can you expand a little on what you're using for them and how you're getting them?

And you're getting really good at filleting a salmon.  Nice clean fillets you have there.

You getting any females?  Remember the recipe for ikura no shoyu zake?

Thanks! Here's the nitty gritty:

I'm running a white Double Deep Six (4 oz.) on Spectra 20 Lb. test.

The spectra really lets the diver get down deep since it's so thin. From the Deep Six I have 4 feet of P-Line CXX X-tra strong to a Hot Spot UV green flasher. I have a heavier line between my diver and flasher so that if I do get a line break it will most likely happen at between the flasher and lure and not lose the flasher. Them flashers is expensive..  :-[

Then another 2 feet of the P-Line to an Owner 3/0 siwash w/ the hoochie on top of it. I had a talk w/ a few people and we've agreed we feel like the siwash does a good job of getting a more positive hookset. I also only use 1 hook. The hook stays in the hoochie body w/o any hook trailing behind. I had a lot of really bad snags on fish in the gill, belly, and eyes and the culprit was always that trailing hook flying around. I've been using glow green hoochies during low light conditions and then UV purple or UV clear during bright light. Just for good measure I top it off I use a few dabs of smelly jelly as well. so much for a simple set up huh? :-\

I troll it at about 2mph or better in about 80-100 FOW. I usually check the FF and see where they're hanging for the day and send it there.

Funny you should ask. The bigger one is the first female I caught. She had eggs but they were really tiny and only had a few of them. We tried them but they were pretty funky. My wife keeps telling me how Ikura taste really good on rice ;D so I'll keep on it.

PS. These pinks make some unbelievably good eating!
