What rod were you using to jig 16oz on?

An engineer's stake?

I'm not sure what model it is but the rod is a 7', heavy duty, 1-piece, Ugly Stick.
Needless to say, it's got some backbone to it.

Dude, that's sweet!  Can't wait to see the results of the Hali quest.  Get it in before they close the near shore fishery!  (If they close it again this year like last.)

:spittake: Funny you should say that.  I had some shad left over so I re-sealed and re-froze it thinking, "What the hell, it worked for Andrew.."  Lol!

As for the rod, it's a Medium Heavy Tiger Stick.  It says it's rated for 8oz. lures but it doesn't seem to mind bouncing the big boys.

I believe rod lure ratings are for casting weight.  Jigging is less dynamic then casting and max lure weight is less relevant.

Sounds like a great day OTW!   You can't complain too much about a monster ling.

Keep at it for the Hali.  I'm guessing you're targeting Pacific halibut since your bicatch was rockfish.  Do California halibut range into Oregon?

Calibutts do range at least as far up as Coos Bay, not sure about farther north withou researching it. I haven't targeted them here but have been gaining intel for a planned assault this month sometime.
See ya on the water..
