Hello Everybody,
Let me introduce myself.  I'm a member of the Nor Cal Kayak Angler site, and since I'm moving to Corvallis in September, I guess I'll be getting involved with this site.

I might hold off buying a fishing license until I can establish residency in Oregon.

Meanwhile, the only species one can harvest without a license is crawdads.  Tasty little buggers.

Has anybody done any diving in the rivers or streams for crawdads around the corvallis area?  I've done some abalone freediving.

John

hit the coastal rivers or small lakes instead of the willy, much better water quality for eating dad's.

Grew up in Philomath which is next door.  Hit the Alsea, from Missouri Bend downstream there's quite a few places to pull over and hit the river.  My favorite spots were Hermie Walters boat launch and the 3 miles above Five Rivers.  Not as many as there used to be, but still available.  Of course, if you're a backpacker, Drift Creek in the Drift Creek wilderness is thick with 'dads.  The Siletz River at Moonshine Park is decent as well.

A little less enthusiasm then some of the other new guys, but that's cool, welcome to the board all the same!

If you're going to paddle anything over 10' you need an 'invasive species permit' and while you're standing at the terminal p/u a shellfish license. Resident or non-resident is the same price. There's lots of tasty treats to hunt until crabbing gets hot in Oct/Nov.

You might try setting up a few ham hock chum stations along the creek to draw the dads out for easier pickings.

Haha, Ling Banger.  Sorry for my lack of enthusiasm.  Fishing is my hobby not my life.  Usually I fish alone, but sometimes hook up with other NCKA guys.  It's always great to share stories and tactics though.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions.  The Oregon regulations actually seem more complicated than the California regulations, but I'll figure it out.  Thanks for the heads up on the invasive species permit.

My yak was stolen just a few days ago from my property, so I'm on the hunt for another boat.  Fishing season is hot right now, and I'm getting no action!  Hopefully I'll pick up another yak in the next couple weeks.

Tight lines,
John
