It looks a little on the rough side for my liking over this next week - MSW is showing most days with the swell height being close to the swell period.  Bouncy bouncy.  If I make it out onto the water, I'll either be on a lake looking for some new AOTY, or being dragged behind a wakeboard boat down at Emigrant lake (yeah, I know, wake boards. I'll make sure I have natty ice on board and oil up mah gunz)

It's ok, d00d.  The Hagg Hui is in Montana for the week, so I take no interest in the blasphemy that is this sacreligious Brodeo.

Have a safe and productive 4th, ya'alls.

That's probably what my last wipeout looked like yesterday.  I think I have half of Emigrant lake still in my ear.
I know, wake boarding.  Actually, for the most part, I was wake skating.  And the boat driver is a very conscientious 70 year old, who just likes to drag his kids and his kid's friends behind his boat, whether or not they are actually standing up on the board.

We did run into a bit of unpleasantness right at the get go.  The boat crew took the boat to the launch, as they have a park pass.  The rest of us parked at the entrance to the park, and walked to one of the docks near the entrance, where the rowing association has their "boat house" - or rack of shells.
It just so happened that we timed our jaunt to the lake with an five day rowing clinic.  So while we were waiting for our ride to show up, we were "greeted" by one of the clinic organizers in her safety boat.

No, mind you, every last one of the people on the dock, in my group, are fairly well adjusted, most of us have master's degree educations or higher, and we tend to be courteous, if not friendly, to everyone.  It pays to not be an asshole.  Of course, to look at us, we all just look like the rest of the lake trash.

No signs up saying that there is a rowing clinic going on, or that the dock is in use by rowers.  We are standing on the dock, oogling the rowers, because those things are cool, and waiting for our ride.  We are discussing how we hope the boat driver doesn't come in like a rocket, cause it would suck to swamp a rower.  Not that he would, since he is (as mentioned before), a nice older gentleman who is very, quick to lay off of the throttle around swimmers, kayakers, etc.

Up comes the safety boat.
Her. "You know we are having a clinic here this morning?  The dock is in use!  You can't stand there, because the oars from the teams will just sweep you off!"
Us.  "Okay, we didn't know.  Our ride will be here in a minute to pick us up, and we will be out of your way."
Her. "You know we have a clinic here this morning?  We are going to be loading and unloading all morning.  Because we are rowers."
Us (Me, edging away from the dock).  "Okay.  We understand.  We'll step to the side and get out of your way."
Her.  "Because we are having a clinic.  Monday through Thursday morning.  We can't have power boaters all over our dock because of our clinic.  our oars will sweep you into the water."

By this point, I had walked away.  but the rest of us "We heard you the first time.  We are moving.  We are being polite about it.  You should pay attention to how polite we are being about it.  Maybe you could be polite too?"
Her. "Oh, we are a bunch of school teachers, thus the tone."
Us.  "Um, we aren't third graders. And look, we have been stepping out of your way the whole time."

As we are standing on the shore, waiting for the ride to pick us up, half of the people coming in to load their boats puff at us "you know we are having a clinic here, right?"

First of all, b*tch, you didn't put a sign up to warn anyone about this clinic of yours.  Second, we know that this is a launch point for rowers, but it is also a public dock on a public lake.  Third, who taught you manners?  How about a "Good morning!  Are you having a nice morning so far? There is a rowing clinic going on this morning, and we just wanted to let you know so everything can run smoothly."  Fourth, well, that was Sunday. (Okay, I didn't say any of that, but we were definitely muttering it).

I'm gonna figure out who was offering that rowing clinic, and send them a little nastygram.  See, it isn't just the Doods who are Doods.  At least the Doods have the excuse of sucking down Natty Ice and enjoying slapstick comedy.

@Madoc,
By the sounds of it, you guys were being more than polite. I'm familiar with folks like the b*tch (why the "star" anyway?) you were dealing with. My brother has been a rowing coach  :director:for years, and he is unfortunately surrounded by "crewnazis" :police:. Most of them are pretty normal folks, but I swear, in every group there's a bossy, impolite, holier than thou b*tch or d*uche bag.
Makes ya wanna let into 'em publicly :thefinger:, but as papa always said "cooler heads prevail"!

In my experience, most row coaches/dragon boaters are Nazi's. Why in God's name someone would want to spend their free time getting yelled at all day by some chick/dude with a Napoleon complex is beyond me.

I've had dragon boaters on the Willy chastise me while guiding a "full moon paddle" for not having bright enough lights for them to see us. They didn't have any lights on their boat at all while every single boat in my group had a white light on the back deck visible in all directions, yet they somehow failed to see the irony in the situation.

I replied "I'm sorry you must have gotten me confused with the dragon boaters who got run over while crossing with no lights on their boat in front of a barge last year. Oh wait, that was you. Piss off."

Also been verbally assaulted by rowers on the Willy for "being in their way". My reply: "Yeah sorry, I didn't notice the river is only 700 yards wide at this spot. Maybe you should try paddling a boat you can turn, or maybe one where you face forward so you can see where you are going."
a few minutes later my group of 8 year olds and I were 100 yds away on the other side of the channel. I had one of the kids yell and ask if they had enough room to get through.

I got to the dock on the Willy to set up boats for a 25 person tour early one morning. It took me about an hour to set all the boats (60lbs each!) for the clients. I went back to the shop, got the clients, came back down to the dock, and a rower had literally thrown all the FG sea kayaks into a pile on the dock. "this part of the dock is for rowers." she stated. I wondered how this frickin part of the dock was different from that part of the dock and how she could be such a douche as I fantasized about punching her in the head.

My personal favorite is dragon boaters who come into our shop. They always ask: "Do you have any dragon boat PFD's?" yeah, because anyone besides you and your lame friends have ever even heard of dragon boating. Don't flatter yourself and your silly "sport" by assuming anything here is made for "dragon boaters". You're just using kayak gear. get over yourself. in fact, shouldn't someone be yelling at you and beating on a drum so you know what to do next?

Sorry for the rant. that one touched a nerve. nothing personal against rowers/dragon boaters. I just think you and your sport are silly.

I agree. Silly. My brother's been trying to get me to row for twenty years. I keep telling him that I like to see where I'm going.
