While i'm sure they'll have a harder lid, these fiberglass ones will still out perform.  One thing I've learned is that the different Tridents have different rodpod openings. While the dimensions are the same, my fiberglass lid from the T15 does not fit on the T11.  In fact, it doesn't even want to pretend it fits. There is enough difference in the mold, and something you can notice when you have them side by side.  Guess that explains the press-and-seal-one-size-fits-all lid...

Not sure why you would think the fiberglass ones to be THAT superior.  Variability in molded hatch openings in nothing new, but for the most part hatches work pretty good.  Go fiddle with your front hatch and see how much play it has.  The rod pod has been slight more problematic than others in certain situations (surf travel, etc.).  And I think a large part of that is due to the long, narrow and flexible design coupled with odd strapping.  I think just having a more rigid lid will do wonders, more so than custom fitting it.

You should see how Swiftdraw's factory lid fit, or didn't.  Wasn't even close.
My factory lid was nearly an inch longer, and wider than his for the same boat.

My fiberglass lid fit his boat perfectly.

But still, there could be enough variation between boats, lids, and moon phases, that it's a crap shoot either way.
True That... my rod pod was a joke I could easily put my finger through the edge of the lid while it was buckled down tight as I could get it.
The lid was a piece of garbage!!
Now I too have a fiberglass Rod Pod Lid thanks to Insayns help.
I think it came out Pretty good considering I have never fiberglassed in my life. I used Black Rust-Oleum Paint I liked the "Hammered" look it gave the rod pod lid. It served two purposes:
1) It looked cool!
2) It masked my mistakes I made on the lid!! ;)

Swiftdraw, nice work bro.  I too was more or less a fiberglass virgin when I fabbed my lid, as well as The Nothing.  In reality working with fiberglass is messy, but not really that hard to do.  If a person can do paper mache, odds are good they can do fiberglass.  ;)

That is a project I will definitely make this fall!  Last winter I built this for myself.

Nice boat.

I really don't think epoxy/fiberglass is that hard to work with, you just have to plan ahead to reduce waste. And this is from a guy that has never done paper mache ;)

Craig,
Pygmy kits are really easy to do.  I had very little epoxy/woodworking experience and It came out really nice.  The Wife really enjoys using it when I go out in my Prowler!

I wonder how much the rod pod upgrade is?  I sure like that lid better then the one I have on my 2010!!!

I just watched the video.  That thing is slick.  Looks to be a big improvement.  Being able to switch location of Scottys on the fly, without drilling mounts all over the hull, is a great feature!

Going to pick one up for sure.  Any idea what month they will become available?

Looks to be a solution for most of irritating problems I've run into...  awesome!

Edit: here's a pdf on the new lid from OK. http://www.oceankayak.com/news/press_releases/OK_FishingPod.pdf

I might add..  I've never fiberglassed and I'm over committed to finish too many other projects around the house - otherwise I would definately go with the Insayn DIY version.
