OK check this out:

I was out yesterday and all of the sudden the mirage drive started making a large clicking noise when pedaling.  And I could feel the fins slipping, almost like the chain was jumping teeth on the cog.  You can kind of see it in the video.  When I first pull the drive out, the fins are cock-eyed.  The second time, they are relatively straight.

I tried tightening the chain cable to make the chain tighter on the cog.  But that didn't seem to help.  Tightened it more so that I could feel the friction, and it still didn't help.  I'm going to tinker with it more today, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has had this problem before and knows a solution.

Thanks,
Rory

Definitely get on the Hobie website and get in contact with Matt Miller. He's the man.

Looks like it jumped some teeth. Was it real loose? Might have chunked the gear.  Don't over tighten it.

See ya on the water..

Demonick, I think you should have chosen the screen name of tinkerer.

You're not the first to suggest something like that.  People bring me things to try and fix all the time.  TLW brings lab equipment and I have about a 50% success rate.  Folks at work bring me things, once even a washing machine.  One can pretty much figure out how stuff works by taking it apart.  Sealed units yield to the mighty dremel.  This spring I replaced the exhaust system on an airplane - great fun!

The Internet is a great resource for DIY and tinkerers.  Exploded diagrams, shop manuals, owner's manuals all online.  Immediately after bringing the truck home I downloaded the service and repair manual.  With that and the Internet the first modification I made was disabling the @!#$%# daytime running lights.  Headlights during the day are a Scandinavian abomination!  I must admit I didn't straighten the truck's frame myself.  I did pull out the front end of a Karmann Gia once by wrapping a chain around the frame and a telephone pole, and backing away from the pole.

A job's not worth doing if you can't get a new tool out of it.
