Hi all,

Ive been lurking around this site for a long time debating on whether to get into kayak fishing. Eventually the decision wasn't up to me as I just learned that my parents got me a Pro Angler as a belated graduation present. Needless to say I'm excited to get it all rigged up and fishing. The only concern right now is how to pack it around.  I have a ford F-150 with no racks.

My question is what would be the best way to outfit my truck to carry this boat.  I didnt know if getting the T bar thing is more hassle than its worth. I'm a pretty big guy and loading and unloading shouldn't be a problem.  I just want to make sure that what I end up doing is going to be sturdy enough.

I'm looking forward to posting some fishing pics in the future.

Thanks,

Zack

 Welcome Zack,
I've got a Pro Angler that I haul with a Nissan Titan 4 dr. It's got a short box bed, but I leave the tailgate down when I haul the yak. I use one of the Harbor freight $30 hitch mounted extenders to give more support. I split a pool noodle and glued it to the top bar and then wrapped it in duct tape. I position the yak on the ground so I can pick up bow and position it on top of the bar. Then pick up the stern and slide it in. A couple of ratchet strap tie downs and its ready to roll. Piece of cake. Me pick it up and put it on top of the truck? No way!

Welcome. If the PA doesn't stick out too far the T bar is a pretty cheap and easy way to go. There's plenty of people who cartop the PA. Best thing about doing that is you'll have room for another yak and also still have lots of room for gear in the bed once the yak is loaded.

Here's the routine:
