Hi,

Just made camping reservations at Moutcha Bay Resort for the tournament.  Taking the wife and son this year so mayhem will rule!  Anyone else planning to go?  Looks like the Moutcha Bay resort is expanding and building a new lodge.  What other activities or places to explore are around Moutcha Bay? The wife will want to pursue  some other activities besides Yaking and fishing.

I'll be there with a bunch of kayak-anglers-for-the-weekend.

Not much to do around there except fish. It's really in the middle of nowhere. The decent hiking isn't too spectacular, and is at least an hour drive. Tahsis may be worth checking out, but I think it's tiny.

I hope it's fishy!

Hey Matt, That was my impression based on my trip last year but don't tell my wife!  I figure we will bring our Mountain bikes and trek around the logging roads and attract Cougars to diversify the activities.

See you at Moutcha bay!

More likely black bears. Last time I was there we had a ton of them and one even came into camp after our fish. Very thankful Moutcha Jim's dog was there to scare it up a tree. Bear bells might not be a bad idea if you're headed out of camp.

I am stoked for the Tyee hunt!  Heading up Weds afternoon with the family in tow.  Anyone know what the regs are for transporting fish in BC and across the border?  I think I headed them last year but kept the tails on.  Can one filet the fish for transport?  Going to bring my fly rod this year as I have yet to hook a king on a fly.

Good luck to all who are going to this. Hope a NWKA'r wins it!!

hope it's better fishing then we had for the FSC...Seems almost impossible for the fishing to be as bad.
See ya on the water..

This was the toughest year for the derby. It was too early and the fish were smaller. It was still fun, and is still probably worth the drive. Weather was great again.

Next year I'll go later, even if that means skipping the derby.

I ended up landing 7 for the weekend, all under 20 lbs.

I got second in the derby for the second year in a row. Tomas got third. Go NWKA!

Hey Matt,

Congradulations!  Way to go NWKA!  I am glad you guys got into some more fish.  It was definitely tougher this year.  I am bummed I had to leave early but I still had a great time.  Nice fish Darcy!
