Meet up with Brett (Drool) at Cape Disappointment we launched at 730 and per Rory’s (Tall_Man’s) advice. We fished the most western part of the north jetty. The wind was 10-15 and easy rolling seas. I hooked a nice 16 ¾ in black rock fish early in the morning and then nada. We decided to try most western part of the south jetty. The wind picked up a bit and started to get choppy. I was getting a bit nervous after fishing the area for 30 min. and decided to head in for a 1.2 mile paddle back to the beach took about 45min.
All in all great day on the water!
That’s Brett for meeting up with me I enjoyed your company!
And thanks Rory for the intel.

It was a pleasure fishing with SwiftDraw Sunday.  We both caught black rock's but mine was ever so slightly smaller  ;D

OK, OK. A few inches smaller, but we had a good meal just the same  :)

I bumped into a sea lion yesterday, actually he bumped into me!  There are usually a few around but they were actively fishing the same area this time. I was really up my line when out of nowhere something reared up out of the water along side me until he was looking me in the eye - gave me a pretty good soaking of sea water. I could have touched him with my hand he was so close, and I was sure he was going to land on my kayak, I winced (cause the water hit my face) but next thing I know he was gone.

SwiftDraw was fishing maybe 75 feet away, and looked over just in time to see a big splash of water - and me desperately trying to balance myself to keep from tipping over.

I was scared to death for an instant - then just thrilled.

Nice, that's always a trill ride. I had a similar incident last year when a sea lion bumped into the back of my F'n'D. The pucker factor got so high for min that had to check the seat of my wet suit to make sure I didn't chew my way through  ;D It's a great story to take with me when I  move away from the west coast.

Ain't that a rush! I've had 'em rear up like that just a few feet away from me and look me right in the eyes when I was waiting for a wave when surfing.
I puckered so violently once when a huge Stellar came up close and reared itself up right in my face, that my contracting cheeks launched me a good foot, straight up in the air off my board! You just hope that they are only "curious." They are very big close up!
They are the locals. You're just a tourist out there.

Nice work getting out there, and thanks for the report.

Glad you guys got out!  Yeah I've noticed that the seals and sea lions out there at CD seem a little less shy than elsewhere.  I am not surprised one came right up to you, a few came very close to me.  Kinda scary, but yeah, thrilling at the same time.
