So on Monday of this week I went to Fern Ridge to do some bass fishing. I have never caught a fish of any sort at Fern Ridge, yet I love paddling the Coyote Creek channel there.

Well, I launched and set out as always. I tried swimbait, jerkbait, spinnerbait, and even a frog. The situation was the same...VERY enjoyable paddle, but no bites. I paddled out from the trees into the grass a ways. It was pretty windy, so I didn't want to get out in the unprotected water.

Eventually I decided to head back. On the way back I found a partially submerged grass point. I anchored up and decided to tie on a carolina rigged 6" watermelon Yamamoto worm and fished it. I casted just over it and reeled in very slowly with a couple twitches here and there to get the glass beads to click and clack.

Then my line tightened and wammo! I landed this 19" 4.5 pound (I used one of those spring scale/tape measure things) largemouth bass.

@islandson671

I love bass fishing. Kayaks are perfect because of their stealth and ability in thick grasses, lake weed and lilly pads. It's a blast!

I would like to try myself on the coastal waters, just not in my sit-inside kayak. Soon enough. :0)

@MARVIN A
What are you going for in the reservoir? bass, trout, crappie, etc?
