Wali, Horizontal submarine , mebbe?

Allen, when the Fearless Foursome did the Salmon Shark trip, did you deal with those critters head on or from the side? for some reason i'm thinking that there is a foundation of lessons learned relating on how to deal with big fish there .

Other than the initial sleighride, those sharks sounded.  I had a hard time maintain a good deal of drag on them and had to back off.  The went on surging runs that made things dicey.  I've been on other fish that I felt like I wanted to put more pressure on, but just couldn't.  This was the best solution I could think of.

I'm not doubting your word, or your experience. not intentionally anyways. just had me wondering if there was a possibility that a key to a problem was there in your memory of that trip and might be waiting for you to call it up.

Apologies, polepole, for bringing up that trip. Didn't realize Jay would turn into a Guru worshipper in public fora like that.

go catch big fish, young 'un.. sounds like you need a break.

This is great timing for me as I'm looking in to a shorter rod for halibut.

I think you'll be fine but It'll be nice to hear what you report back - good luck.

Hmm... I've got a rod like that down in my garage collecting dust that has never seen the water.  It's a no name brand about four to five feet.  Makes me want to put it to use some how.  Might that kind of a rod work well for targeting big halibut?  Are those roller guides on that rod or regular guides?
