I'm talking about the User Info boxes that have links to show unread or show replies.  I'm not asking about the block titled "Recent".

I'm asking because I don't really like the one at the top, mainly because it takes up a lot of space.  But the one on the left is too far down the left column and means I have to scroll down a bit.

I could move the left side up, but I like the "Recent" block that is near the top.

FYI.  Did you know you can collapse the one at the top by clicking the ^ in the upper right hand corner?

Yeah, I collapsed mine a long time ago and completely forgot about it.

Yeah, I don't like the options to collapse/uncollapse.  There is no easy checkbox that allows me to disable this.  However, I can hack the code to make it so.  I'm working through look and feel issues on the site and want to get a better idea which features get use.  If I could do away with the top user box, I would.

On a similar note the "Recent" box is somewhat helpful, but not completely.  It is only set up to the the 5 most recent.   It can be extended but the a lot of the left column is then taken up.  As we get more postings, it's hard to keep up.  I need to figure out a page that shows all recent posts, and not just recent unread.  Of course there is this, http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?action=recent , but I like more of a summary like what is in the "Recent" block.

I really miss the "Recent Topics" link the last format had.  I have started using the "Show Unread" link more though.  In the grand scheme of things, it's not really that big of a deal though IMO.

Allen,
Most of the time I use the "Show Unread" link that is lower on the left. In fact, that is my home page. I do use the upper links occasionally when I have been checking the board but not reading the messages.

I liked the Recent Topics too.  I just installed a version of it ... http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?action=recenttopics

Although I don't like that formatting since it is not consistent with the other listings.  When I have some time, I'll take a more detailed look at it.

Hmmm ... that new recenttopics page doesn't seem to flag the "new" posts either.  More work ...

I don't see any 'recent' on the top at all, or a place to minimize or bring it back.  I use the one on the left side if there are 3-4 recent posts, if it's full, then I click "Show unread posts since last visit." so I don't miss anything.   (though I do intentionally skip some topics all together.

Jay

That is why I do as well - when I navigate to a specific topic and then finish I click the "unread posts since last visit" if I have not opened separate tabs . . .
