Anyone used this model? How is it different than the TVC66MH? Any input would be great. I found one for $110 and thought it would be a hell of a halibut/ heavy ling rod. Not sure about the short 6'3" length though.
Thanks,
Gear whore

If it is a TFC then that is a good good price.  It is not the rod I would use for Butts though but would make avery good jigging rod for anything else.  unless your casting alot.  I prefer the shorter rods in the salt.

Why avoid for buts? It is the F series. I would pair it with my Tekota 500

I think it will work for nearshore halibut (60-80ft) on the straights but not in 200+ feet of water with the current out there.  Not enough backbone for the 2lb or more weights needed.  Don't have a 63MH, basing my opinion with sole on my experience with a TVC 66M.  Definately would hurt to give it a try though.  Just bring your meat stci as a back up.

I think that Zee uses the 66MH. I'm also in the trevala market. A friend of mine at Fishermans said they have em on sale in june, just prior to tuna season starting at $99 and up.

The 66MH is a good rock fishing rod but like kykfshr said you need a meat stick w/ real backbone for big fishing.

so the MH would be good up to about 8 oz for live baiting?

I purchased the tcv-70ml, and it's all you need for bottom fish. At times I feel a little guilty because I would be having more fun with lighter gear, but being able to horse them out of their hole/off the bottom means your not losing as many fish/rigs.

FYI -tvc-70ml is 7'.

I know you have some long arms Fungunnin, but you should make sure you can pass that rod around the bow, unless your just chasing fish that will tow you to the fight.

You may be asking too much from one rod. A halibut rod is a meat stick, bottom fish rods should provide some excitement.

they're much stiffer than they look, my 2 centavos

Added note, only Yaksurf and CBY have seen my halibut setup, and now that I have a mod-pod, you'll have to be a few miles offshore with me to get a peep. Thanks again outdoorplay.com

For 8 ounces live baiting, I think the 66M is fine.  For 8 ounces jigging all day, it will be ok, maybe perhaps getting a bit tiring.

Note, I lean towards lighter rods in general so YMMV.

My light bottom fish set up will be a 1-6 lami Kenai Guide with a Revo Toro. This will be my meat stick. I like how light the Trevala's are. Does anyone have experience with the F series?

FYI this guy has 4 70ML's for $75 each and a ton of other heavy duty gear.

I am meeting him on Wednesday in Seattle but he lives in Portland.
