Marine area 7 spots?

i was curious where that had gone to....

Accidentally snagged this interesting little thing on a jig (fishing for greenlings) out at Deception Pass last weekend.  Got him right in the belly, so he probably didn't live   I am thinking it's a Hawkfish, but thought I'd post to see if anyone knows what this is for sure.

What color is the flesh, and does it change color when cooked???

Hmm...well I threw it back because it was too small to eat, and at the time I was optomistally hoping the wound wasn't mortal!  I'm sure he's toast though
